The Silence and the Scheme
Weekly Prayer Focus
"Fix our eyes on Jesus, the Lamb who was slain and the King who is risen. Teach us to walk in the power of the cross and the beauty of the resurrection."
Scripture
Matthew 26:14–16 (NLT)
"Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, 'How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?' And they gave him thirty pieces of silver. From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus."
Devotion
Wednesday is quiet in the Gospels. There are no crowds. No miracles. No public teachings.
But behind the scenes, betrayal is taking root.
While the disciples perhaps rested or prayed, Judas was negotiating. He traded proximity to Jesus for a pocketful of silver. It didn’t happen all at once—it started in the heart long before he ever reached for the coins.
Holy Week Wednesday reminds us to search ourselves. To ask the hard questions.
Am I close to Jesus in appearance but far from Him in loyalty?
Are there quiet compromises forming behind the curtain of busyness or ministry?
Is there anything I’ve been holding onto that I’d trade Him for?
This isn’t a day of shame—it’s a day of sober reflection.
Jesus knew Judas would betray Him—and He still called him “friend.”
That’s the mercy of our King.
And that’s the invitation today: to bring every quiet place into the light. To reject compromise. To return to the One who calls us His own, even when we’ve failed.
