Live for What Lasts

Scripture

Matthew 6:20 (ESV)
"But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Devotion

It’s easy to get consumed with what’s temporary — schedules, bills, goals, and daily demands. But Jesus invites us into something far more lasting: an eternal investment strategy.

In Matthew 6:20, He challenges us to shift our focus from the seen to the unseen, from the temporary to the eternal.
You only get one life — but you can live it in a way that echoes into forever.

What does it mean to lay up treasure in heaven?

  • It means loving when it’s inconvenient.

  • Giving when no one sees.

  • Serving when no one says thank you.

  • Choosing obedience when compromise would be easier.

  • Sowing into people, truth, and purpose — not just possessions and pleasure.

You don’t have to be a missionary or a pastor to live a life that matters in heaven.
You just have to live with eternity in mind — day by day, choice by choice, moment by moment.

Today is a gift. And what you do with it counts.

Prayer Focus

  • Lord, help me live today with heaven in view.

  • Shift my priorities from temporary gain to eternal impact.

  • Show me how to sow into others, into truth, and into Your Kingdom.

  • Remind me that every small act of faithfulness matters to You.

  • I declare today: I am building something that will outlive me. I will live for what lasts.
