What Is Your Life?

Scripture

James 4:14 (ESV)
"What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes."

Devotion

Today, we pause to honor those who gave everything — men and women who laid down their lives in defense of freedom.

But Memorial Day isn’t just about looking back. It’s also about looking inward.

It’s about facing the question that eternity asks every one of us:
What is your life?

Scripture says it’s a vapor — a breath — a moment that vanishes.
And while it’s noble to die for a cause, it’s eternal to live for Christ.

We make so many preparations in life — insurance, investments, retirement plans — but how many of us are preparing our souls?

We live for security, for success, for the American dream — but are we living for what will matter forever?

Freedom is never free — not in the natural, and not in the Spirit.
Just as soldiers bled for our national liberty, Jesus bled for our eternal freedom.

And now, He asks:
Will you lay down your pride?
Will you lay down your comfort, your preferences, your plans…
So you can live for something greater?

This isn’t just a memorial — it’s a wake-up call.

But it’s also an invitation.

An Invitation to Live for What Matters Most

You were made for more than survival.
You were created for purpose.

The life God has given you is not random — it’s intentional, eternal, and powerful.
Every act of love, every word of truth, every step of obedience — it all echoes in eternity.

Living for Christ means:

  • Investing in people, not just possessions.

  • Building what lasts, not just what shines.

  • Dying empty, having poured out everything He placed inside you.

🟠 “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven...” (Matthew 6:20)
🟠 “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice...” (Romans 12:1)
🟠 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race...” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Your life can matter in heaven.
You can live today in a way that eternity will never forget.

Prayer Focus

  • Lord, thank You for the brave men and women who laid down their lives for our freedom.

  • Help me live in a way that honors both their sacrifice and Yours.

  • Teach me to number my days — to live with eternity in mind.

  • Break off any distraction, pride, or comfort that keeps me from living fully surrendered.

  • Fill me with purpose and clarity — I want to live for what truly matters.

  • I declare today: I choose to live for Christ. I choose to invest in what lasts forever.
