It Is Finished

Weekly Prayer Focus

"Fix our eyes on Jesus, the Lamb who was slain and the King who is risen. Teach us to walk in the power of the cross and the beauty of the resurrection."

Scripture

John 19:29–30 (NLT)
"A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips.
When Jesus had tasted it, he said, ‘It is finished!’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."

Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)
"But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed."

Devotion

Everything comes to a halt on Good Friday.
The crowds are gone. The miracles are paused. The Teacher is silent.

All that remains is the cross.

Here, Jesus bore not just physical pain—but spiritual weight.
The sin of humanity. The sting of betrayal. The wrath of justice.
And He carried it—not with anger, but with love.

He didn’t say, “I am finished.”
He said, “It is finished.”

The work of redemption was complete. The sacrifice accepted.
The veil torn. The curse broken.
And what He carried, we don’t have to carry anymore.

We don’t rush past this day.
We stop.
We remember.
We bow low at the cross and say:
Thank You, Jesus.

And then—we rise, not only as those forgiven, but as witnesses of what the cross has accomplished.
Let this Good Friday not only humble you—but compel you to share what Jesus did.
Because if we’ve truly seen the weight He carried for us, we can’t keep it to ourselves.

Prayer Focus

  • Spend time in quiet reflection. Thank Jesus personally for the cross.

  • Ask the Lord to search your heart and renew your awe of His sacrifice.

  • Pray for those who still don’t know the weight or wonder of what Jesus did.

  • Intercede for hearts to be softened—at Harvest, in your family, and in our city—as the cross is preached this weekend.

Declaration

Jesus, I remember.
I remember the nails, the thorns, the silence, the love.
You died my death so I could live Your life.
Let me never take the cross for granted.
Give me boldness to share this gift of mercy with a world that desperately needs it.
I worship You—Lamb of God, slain for the sins of the world.
