Day 38: He Will Finish What He Started

40 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Prayer Focus: Trusting God to Complete His Work

“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion…”
Philippians 1:6 ESV

Yesterday our prayer was:

“Lord, I believe You are able.”

Today, with only three days remaining in our 40-day journey, we hold onto another promise:

The God who started the work is faithful to finish it.

Our prayer today is:

“Lord, finish what You started in me.”

God Is Still Working

After 38 days of prayer and fasting, it would be easy to measure the journey by what we can see.

What changed?

What prayers were answered?

What breakthroughs happened?

What still looks exactly the same?

But God's work is not limited to what we can immediately recognize.

Paul told the Philippians that he was confident God would complete the work He had begun in them.

That means our confidence isn't merely in how well we have performed during these 40 days.

Our confidence is in the faithfulness of God.

He is still working.

Don't Judge the Work Too Early

Some things God has done during these 40 days may already be obvious.

Other things may not become clear until much later.

A seed can be growing underground before anything becomes visible above the surface.

The same can be true spiritually.

God may have planted something.

Changed a desire.

Broken an old pattern.

Awakened a hunger.

Started healing something.

Redirected your thinking.

Deepened your dependence upon Him.

Don't assume God isn't working simply because you haven't seen the finished result yet.

This Journey Doesn't End on Day 40

In two days, this 40-day season will conclude.

But God's work in us does not.

The goal was never simply to complete 40 days.

The goal was to allow these 40 days to change the way we seek God afterward.

Keep praying.

Keep seeking.

Keep listening.

Keep obeying.

Keep following.

What God began during this season may be preparation for something that hasn't happened yet.

Let Him finish the work.

Today's Prayer Focus

Finish What You Started
Continue the work You have begun in my heart.

Help Me Recognize Your Work
Show me how You have changed me during these 40 days.

Keep Me Growing
Don't let the end of this season become the end of my pursuit.

Prepare Me for What Is Ahead
Use everything You have done in me for what You will do next.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for everything You have begun in me.

Some of it I can see clearly. Some of it I may not understand yet.

But I trust You.

Continue changing my heart, strengthening my faith, renewing my mind, and drawing me closer to Jesus.

Don't let me simply finish 40 days and return to where I was before.

Carry this work forward.

Lord, finish what You started in me.

In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Challenge

Take a few minutes and look back over the past 38 days.

Ask:

“What has God started in me during this journey?”

Write down one change you've noticed and one area where you believe God is still working.

Then pray:

“Lord, I trust You to finish what You started.”

Day 37: Lord, I believe You are able.
