40 Days of Prayer & Fasting
Prayer Focus: Expecting God to Do What Only He Can Do
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…”
Ephesians 3:20 ESV
Yesterday our prayer was:
“Lord, make us one.”
Today, with only a few days remaining in our 40-day journey, we turn our attention toward the greatness of the God we have been seeking.
Our prayer today is:
“Lord, I believe You are able.”
Our God Is Able
For 37 days we have prayed.
We have surrendered.
We have listened.
We have fasted.
We have asked God to change our hearts, direct our steps, strengthen our faith, and use our lives.
There are prayers we have already seen God answer.
And there are prayers we're still waiting on.
Paul reminds us that our confidence is not ultimately in the size of our faith or the strength of our prayers.
Our confidence is in the ability of our God.
Ephesians 3:20 doesn't merely say God is able to do what we ask.
Paul piles the language together:
“Far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.”
Our imagination does not establish the limits of what God can do.
According to His Power
The verse continues:
“…according to the power at work within us.”
The same God we are asking to move around us is already at work within us.
Sometimes while we're praying for God to change the situation, He is changing us.
Sometimes while we're waiting for the answer, He is strengthening our faith.
And sometimes God moves in ways we could never have planned ourselves.
Our responsibility is not to determine exactly how God must answer.
Our responsibility is to trust that:
He is able.
Today We Fast Together
Today is our final Wednesday fast of these 40 days.
From sunup to sundown, liquids only, let's seek God together with expectation.
When hunger comes today, turn it into prayer:
“Lord, You are able.”
Bring Him the prayer that still seems impossible.
Bring Him the person you've been praying for.
Bring Him the situation you cannot change.
Bring Him the thing that is completely beyond your ability.
Then remember:
Your limitation is not God's limitation.
Today's Prayer Focus
Increase My Faith
Help me believe You are able even when I cannot see the answer.
Do What Only You Can Do
I surrender the impossible situations to You.
Work Within Me
Don't only change what is around me. Continue changing me.
Receive the Glory
Whatever You do, let it point people toward Jesus.
Today's Prayer
Father, I believe You are able.
You are greater than every circumstance I face and every limitation I see.
Today I bring You the prayers I am still waiting to see answered.
As I fast, strengthen my faith and remind me that nothing is beyond Your ability.
Work around me, work through me, and continue working within me.
I surrender the outcome to You, but I refuse to limit You by what I can see or understand.
Lord, You are able.
In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Challenge
During today's fast, identify one prayer you've almost stopped believing for.
Bring it before God again.
Don't tell God how He has to answer it.
Simply pray:
“Lord, I still believe You are able.”
Then leave the outcome in His hands.
Day 36: Lord, make us one.
Day 37: Lord, I believe You are able.
