40 Days of Prayer & Fasting
Prayer Focus: Continuing With Spiritual Fervor
“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”
Romans 12:11 ESV
Yesterday our prayer was:
“Lord, finish what You started in me.”
Today we have reached Day 39.
Tomorrow marks the end of our 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting, but today we need to settle something in our hearts:
We don't want the fire to end when the 40 days end.
Our prayer today is:
“Lord, keep the fire burning in me.”
Don't Let This Become Just a Moment
For 39 days, we have intentionally made room for God.
We have prayed.
We have fasted.
We have opened His Word.
We have listened.
We have surrendered.
We have asked Him to search us, lead us, strengthen us, and use us.
But the purpose of these 40 days was never simply to create a powerful moment.
It was to develop a deeper pursuit of God.
Romans 12:11 tells us:
“Be fervent in spirit.”
The word translated “fervent” carries the idea of being hot, boiling, or burning with zeal.
Paul is describing a life that remains spiritually alive and passionate in serving the Lord.
Don't Go Back
One of the greatest dangers after an intentional season with God is slowly returning to everything exactly as it was before.
The prayer time disappears.
The hunger fades.
The distractions return.
The urgency is lost.
But what if these 40 days weren't meant to be something we simply finished?
What if they were meant to establish something we continue?
Maybe you won't continue getting up at the same time every morning.
Maybe the fasting schedule changes.
But something should remain.
The hunger for God should remain.
Stir It Up
Paul told Timothy:
“…fan into flame the gift of God…”
2 Timothy 1:6 ESV
Fire has to be tended.
Our relationship with God does too.
Keep praying when the campaign ends.
Keep opening your Bible.
Keep fasting.
Keep worshiping.
Keep gathering with believers.
Keep sharing Jesus.
Keep responding when the Holy Spirit speaks.
Don't wait until you become spiritually dry to seek God again.
Tend the fire.
Today's Prayer Focus
Keep Me Hungry
Don't let my desire for Your presence fade when these 40 days end.
Guard What You've Started
Help me protect the spiritual habits and convictions developed during this journey.
Renew My Passion
Where I have become spiritually comfortable, awaken me again.
Make Me Faithful
Give me endurance to pursue You beyond a temporary season.
Today's Prayer
Father, thank You for everything You have done during these 39 days.
But I don't want this to become simply a memory.
Keep me hungry for You.
Guard the things You have awakened in my heart.
When distractions return, draw me back. When my passion begins to fade, stir me again.
Teach me to seek You when there isn't a campaign, a countdown, or a special season.
I don't simply want to finish 40 days.
Lord, keep the fire burning in me.
In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Challenge
Before these 40 days end, decide:
“What am I going to continue?”
Choose at least one practice from these 40 days that will remain part of your life after tomorrow.
Prayer.
Fasting.
Time in Scripture.
Early morning seeking.
Intercession for others.
Whatever it is, don't simply finish.
Carry the fire forward.
