Day 9 — “Guard Your Eyes”
Scripture:
Psalm 101:3 (KJV)
“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”
Devotional Thought:
The lust of the eyes is not only about what we look at — it is about what we allow to shape our desires, thoughts, and direction. Scripture reminds us that what we set before our eyes has the power to influence our hearts.
Our eyes are a gateway. What we continually watch, scroll, compare, or admire begins to form what we crave and pursue. The enemy often doesn’t need to destroy us with obvious sin — he distracts us with subtle compromise and misplaced focus.
Guarding our eyes is an act of spiritual discipline. It is choosing to be intentional about what we consume visually and mentally. When we protect our vision, we protect our direction.
Fasting heightens our awareness of these influences. As appetites were quieted in Week 1, now our attention is being refined. God is teaching us to turn our eyes away from what weakens us and toward what strengthens us.
Today, we choose to guard our eyes and align our vision with God’s will.
Prayer Focus:
Ask the Lord to reveal anything you have allowed before your eyes that weakens your spirit
Pray for strength to turn away from distraction and compromise
Ask God to purify your desires and focus
Invite the Holy Spirit to guard your heart through your vision
Prayer:
“Lord, help me guard my eyes and my heart. Reveal anything I have allowed to shape my desires apart from You. Purify my vision and align my focus with Your will. I choose to look toward what honors You. Amen.”
