Day 8 — “Lift Up Your Eyes”

John 4:35 (ESV)
Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest

Devotional Thought:

As we move into the second week of prayer and fasting, the Lord begins to address not just what rules our appetites, but what shapes our vision. Scripture calls this the lust of the eyes — the pull of what we see, desire, compare, and pursue.

The eyes are powerful. What we fix our gaze on begins to influence our thoughts, priorities, and direction. The lust of the eyes keeps us focused on what we want, what we lack, or what distracts us — rather than what God is doing.

Jesus challenged His disciples to lift their eyes. Not to ignore reality, but to see it correctly. When our vision is renewed, we stop being driven by comparison, desire, and distraction, and we begin to see with clarity, compassion, and purpose.

Fasting helps quiet internal noise so our vision can be sharpened. As our appetites were confronted last week, now our focus is refined. God is training us to see beyond ourselves and align our eyes with His heart.

Today, we ask the Lord to help us see rightly.

Prayer Focus:

  • Ask God to reveal where your vision has been shaped by desire or distraction

  • Pray for clarity to see what God is doing around you

  • Ask the Lord to remove comparison and misplaced focus

  • Invite God to align your eyes with His purposes

Prayer:

“Lord, lift my eyes to see what You see. Remove distractions, comparisons, and misplaced desires. Give me clear vision and a heart aligned with Yours. Help me see the harvest, the need, and Your work around me. Amen.”
