Who Are You Following?
Scripture
John 8:44 (ESV)
"You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
Devotion
This is one of the most direct and confronting statements Jesus ever made. He wasn’t speaking to outsiders or pagans — He was talking to those who claimed to believe, who were rooted in religious tradition. Yet He told them plainly: You may be Abraham’s descendants physically, but spiritually, you’re following a different father.
Jesus made it clear — every person is following someone. Whether we realize it or not, we’re either being led by the Father of truth or the father of lies.
It’s not about claiming belief. It’s about what we do with truth.
Do we receive it, or resist it?
Do we let it transform us, or do we hide behind religion, pride, or tradition?
🟠 1 John 3:10 — “By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God...”
🟠 John 1:12 — “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
Receiving the truth doesn’t always feel good — it cuts, it confronts, it exposes — but it also heals, redeems, and restores.
Don’t let the pain of truth make you reach for a stone.
Let it bring you to surrender.
Prayer Focus
Father, I don’t want to just believe—I want to belong to You fully.
Expose any area in my heart where I’ve resisted truth because of pride or fear.
Help me discern what spirit I’m following—truth or deception, humility or pride.
Break every lie that has shaped my thinking, my identity, or my decisions.
I receive the Spirit of adoption and declare that I belong to You.
Let truth take root in me, even when it’s uncomfortable. I choose to be a child of God, not a slave to lies.
