Only the Son Can Set You Free
Scripture
John 8:35–36 (ESV)
"The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Devotion
There’s a difference between being around the house and being part of the family.
Jesus tells us plainly: a slave doesn’t remain forever, but a son does. He’s not just drawing a legal distinction — He’s revealing a spiritual reality. Many people live near God — they serve, give, and even worship — yet they still carry the mindset of a spiritual orphan or a slave. They strive for acceptance, work to earn love, and live with quiet insecurity, unsure if they really belong.
But Jesus came to break that off. He’s not interested in hiring more servants — He’s adopting sons and daughters.
🟠 Galatians 4:7 — "So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."
🟠 Romans 8:16–17 — "The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs..."
Jesus doesn’t just forgive you — He frees you. That freedom isn’t partial or temporary. It’s “free indeed.” Fully, eternally, and unquestionably free. Not because of your performance, but because of your position in Christ.
If you've been striving to earn your place in God’s house, today is the day to stop striving and start abiding. You belong—not because of what you've done, but because of who He is.
Prayer Focus
Jesus, thank You for freeing me and calling me into sonship.
Break every mindset in me that still thinks like a slave or spiritual orphan.
I renounce striving, shame, and spiritual insecurity.
Help me walk in the confidence of a child of God — accepted, loved, and secure.
Let my freedom be evident in how I live, worship, and love others.
Remind me today: I don’t just visit the Father’s house — I belong in it.
