Day 5 — “Walk by the Spirit”

Scripture:

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Galatians 5:16 (ESV)

Devotional Thought:

Fasting does more than weaken the flesh — it creates space for the Spirit to lead. Scripture does not tell us to fight the flesh directly, but to walk by the Spirit. As we do, the power of the flesh begins to lose its influence.

The flesh thrives on attention and indulgence. The Spirit thrives on surrender and obedience. When we fast, we are not just denying appetite — we are choosing direction. We are learning to follow the leading of the Spirit rather than the pull of desire.

Walking by the Spirit is daily, intentional, and relational. It means yielding our steps, decisions, and reactions to God. As the Spirit leads, the grip of the flesh weakens, and a new pattern of life begins to form.

Today, we shift our focus from what we are laying down to Who we are walking with.

Prayer Focus:

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to lead your thoughts, choices, and desires

  • Pray for sensitivity to the Spirit’s voice throughout the day

  • Surrender areas where the flesh has tried to take control

  • Ask God to establish new habits that reflect spiritual life

Prayer:

“Holy Spirit, lead my steps today. Teach me to walk with You and not be governed by the desires of the flesh. I yield my will, my habits, and my decisions to You. Form Your life in me as I follow You. Amen.”
