Prayer Focus: Faith to Follow God

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV

For the past week, we have focused on hearing God: listening, asking for wisdom, seeking His direction, following the Spirit, exercising discernment, waiting, and receiving renewed strength.

Now we begin another part of our journey:

Following where He leads.

Hearing God matters. But eventually, what we hear must become something we walk out.

Today our prayer is:

“Lord, give me faith to follow You.”

Faith Doesn't Require Sight

We naturally want to see before we move.

We want to know how everything will work. We want guarantees about the outcome. We want enough information to eliminate uncertainty.

But Paul describes the Christian life differently:

We walk by faith, not by sight.

Faith doesn't mean ignoring reality or abandoning wisdom. It means our confidence in God is greater than our dependence upon what we can presently see.

Abraham demonstrated this when God called him to go. Hebrews tells us that “he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8 ESV)

He didn't know every detail.

He knew the One who called him.

Take the Next Step

Sometimes we become so focused on understanding the entire journey that we miss the step God has placed directly in front of us.

God may not show us ten steps ahead.

He may simply say:

Forgive.

Serve.

Give.

Speak.

Wait.

Go.

Trust Me.

Faith responds to what God has made clear even when everything beyond it isn't clear yet.

We don't need enough faith for every possibility tomorrow.

We need faith to obey God today.

Following Requires Trust

Proverbs tells us to trust the Lord rather than leaning entirely upon our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6).

There will be moments when following God stretches us beyond what feels comfortable.

That's where faith grows.

Not when we have every answer, but when we can say:

“Lord, I may not see everything ahead, but I trust You enough to follow.”

Today's Prayer Focus

Increase My Faith
Help me trust You beyond what I can presently see.

Give Me Courage
Keep fear from preventing obedience.

Show Me the Next Step
Help me focus on today's obedience instead of tomorrow's uncertainty.

Keep Me Close
Don't let me become more focused on the destination than on walking with You.

Today's Prayer

Father, today I choose to walk by faith.

I don't need to understand everything ahead because You already see what I cannot.

Give me faith to follow when the path is clear and when it isn't.

Keep fear from controlling my decisions. Give me courage to obey what You have already shown me.

I don't ask You to reveal the entire journey today.

Just help me faithfully take the next step with You.

Ask the Lord:

“What is the next step of obedience You have already shown me?”

Don't worry about ten steps from now.
