Day 14: Renew My Strength

40 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Prayer Focus: Strength for the Journey

“But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength…”
Isaiah 40:31 ESV

Yesterday our prayer was:

“Lord, I trust Your timing.”

Today, as we complete another week of our 40-day journey, our prayer is:

“Lord, renew my strength.”

There are seasons when we simply become tired.

Not necessarily because we're doing something wrong. Sometimes we've been praying, serving, working, believing, and carrying responsibilities for a long time.

Isaiah 40 reminds us that even the strongest among us eventually become weary. Human strength has limits.

God's strength does not.

Strength Comes From Waiting

Isaiah gives us an important connection between waiting and renewal.

“They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength…”
Isaiah 40:31 ESV

Yesterday we focused on waiting for God. Today we see what can happen while we wait.

God renews us.

Waiting on the Lord doesn't mean doing nothing. It means placing our confidence, hope, and dependence upon Him.

Sometimes we ask God to immediately change our circumstances when what we desperately need is for Him to strengthen us in the middle of them.

His Strength, Not Mine

Paul learned this when he asked God to remove something difficult from his life. God's response pointed him toward a deeper truth:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

Weakness reminds us that we were never meant to live entirely from our own strength.

There are moments when the most spiritual thing we can admit is:

“Lord, I'm tired. I need You.”

You don't have to pretend to be strong before God.

Bring Him your weariness.

Bring Him your frustration.

Bring Him the places where you feel empty.

Then allow His strength to become sufficient for you.

Today's Prayer Focus

Renew My Strength
Ask God to restore you spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Renew My Joy
Ask Him to restore joy where responsibility or weariness has begun to drain it.

Renew My Hope
Bring areas of discouragement before Him.

Teach Me Dependence
Ask God to help you stop carrying in your own strength what was meant to be carried with Him.

Today's Prayer

Father, today I need Your strength.

You know the places where I am tired, discouraged, or running low.

Teach me to wait upon You and receive what I cannot produce for myself.

Renew my strength. Renew my joy. Renew my hope.

Where I am weak, remind me that Your grace is sufficient. Where I am weary, help me rest in Your presence.

Give me strength for today's responsibilities and faith for tomorrow's journey.

I don't want to live from my own strength.

Lord, renew my strength.

In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Challenge

Identify the area where you feel most tired right now.

Instead of simply asking God to remove it, pray:

“Lord, give me Your strength for this.”

Then give yourself permission today to slow down, rest in His presence, and receive rather than constantly striving.
