Prayer Focus: Trusting God When We Cannot See the Way
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 ESV
Over these first five days, God has been drawing our attention inward.
Day 1: Lord, search me.
Day 2: Lord, cleanse me.
Day 3: Lord, I surrender.
Day 4: Lord, I want more of You.
Day 5: Lord, I'm listening.
Today, we take another step:
“Lord, I trust You.”
It's one thing to trust God when we understand what He is doing.
It's another thing to trust Him when we don't.
Faith does not require us to understand everything ahead of us. Faith requires us to know Who is leading us.
We Want the Whole Map
Most of us would prefer God to show us the entire journey before asking us to take the first step.
Where are we going?
How will this work?
How will the need be provided?
What happens after this?
What if something goes wrong?
How does everything turn out?
We want answers because answers make us feel secure.
But Proverbs 3:5–6 gives us a different foundation. We are told to trust God with all our heart rather than depending upon our own understanding.
There will be seasons when God's direction exceeds our understanding.
That doesn't mean God isn't leading.
It means we're being asked to trust.
Abraham Went Without Knowing
Hebrews 11 tells us that Abraham obeyed when God called him to go to a place he would later receive as an inheritance.
Then Scripture says something remarkable:
“And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8 ESV)
Abraham had a word from God, but he didn't have all the details.
He knew enough to take the next step.
Sometimes we think faith means having complete confidence about everything that will happen.
But biblical faith often looks like obedience without complete information.
God doesn't always show us the entire road.
Sometimes He gives us enough light for the next step.
And then He asks:
Will you trust Me?
Trust His Character When You Don't Understand His Plan
There will be moments when we don't understand what God is doing.
That's when what we know about God becomes more important than what we know about our circumstances.
We know He is faithful.
We know He is good.
We know He sees what we cannot see.
We know He knows the end from the beginning.
We know His wisdom is greater than ours.
We know He has never stopped being God simply because we don't understand what He's doing.
Psalm 37 tells us:
“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him…” (Psalm 37:5 ESV)
Trust isn't pretending there are no questions.
Trust is deciding that our questions will not become greater than our confidence in God.
Harvest Is Learning to Trust
This speaks directly to the season we're walking through as a church.
We are talking about new territory.
There are questions.
There are details that need answers.
There are practical matters to work through.
There are things we can see clearly and things we cannot yet see.
But perhaps God isn't asking us to know everything today.
Perhaps He's asking us to trust Him today.
Israel had to learn this repeatedly.
God gave them enough manna for each day.
His presence led them one stage at a time.
And when they eventually came to the Jordan, the waters didn't part while everyone remained safely in the camp.
The priests carrying the ark had to step toward the water.
Joshua 3:13–17
Trust eventually requires movement.
We listen.
We discern.
We pray.
And when God makes the next step clear, we obey Him.
Don't Lean on Your Own Understanding
This doesn't mean we stop thinking, planning, seeking counsel, or using wisdom.
Scripture encourages all of those things.
But there is a difference between using understanding and leaning on understanding.
Our understanding is useful.
It just isn't strong enough to carry the weight of our future.
God is.
So today, whatever uncertainty you're carrying, release your demand to understand everything.
You don't need the entire map to trust the Guide.
Today's Prayer Focus
Trust His Character
Thank God for who He is and remind yourself of His faithfulness.
Release the Unknown
Bring the unanswered questions you've been carrying before Him.
Reject Fear
Ask God to expose places where fear has begun directing your decisions.
Trust God With Harvest
Pray that our church will neither run ahead of God nor refuse to move when He leads.
Take the Next Step
Ask the Lord what obedience looks like for you today.
Today's Prayer
Father, today I choose to trust You.
There are things I understand and things I don't. There are questions I can answer and questions I cannot.
But my confidence isn't in having every answer.
My confidence is in You.
Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear, uncertainty, or my own understanding to become greater than my trust in You.
I give You the things I cannot control.
I give You my future.
And I give You the future of Harvest.
As You lead us into new territory, keep us close to Your presence. Give us wisdom to recognize Your direction and faith to move when You tell us to move.
We don't need to see the entire road.
We just need to know that You are leading us.

Identify one unanswered question that has been consuming your thoughts.
Write it down.
Pray about it.
Then underneath it write:
“I don't have to understand this to trust God with it.”
Give it to Him today.
Day 1: Lord, search me.
Day 2: Lord, cleanse me.
Day 3: Lord, I surrender.
Day 4: Lord, I want more of You.
Day 5: Lord, I'm listening.
Day 6: Lord, I trust You.
