Prayer Focus: Remembering What God Has Done

“I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.”
Psalm 77:11 ESV

Today marks one full week of our 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting.

Over these first seven days, we have intentionally focused on consecrating ourselves and preparing our hearts before the Lord.

Day 1: Lord, search me.
Day 2: Lord, cleanse me.
Day 3: Lord, I surrender.
Day 4: Lord, I want more of You.
Day 5: Lord, I'm listening.
Day 6: Lord, I trust You.

Today, we close our first week with another important prayer:

“Lord, I remember.”

Before we begin looking more intentionally toward where God is leading us, I believe we need to stop and remember where He has already brought us from.

We Forget Too Easily

One of the repeated struggles we see throughout Scripture is how quickly God's people forgot what He had done.

God provided, and they praised Him.

Then another problem came.

Suddenly, the God who had been faithful yesterday seemed difficult to trust today.

If we're not careful, we can do the same thing.

We remember the problem in front of us more clearly than the miracle behind us.

We remember what hasn't happened yet while forgetting everything God has already done.

That's why Scripture repeatedly calls God's people to remember.

Psalm 103 tells us to “forget not all his benefits…” (Psalm 103:2 ESV).

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our faith concerning tomorrow is remember God's faithfulness yesterday.

Remember Your Own Story

Take a moment and think about your life.

There were prayers you didn't know how God would answer.

But He did.

There were seasons you didn't know how you would survive.

But you're still here.

There were doors you could never have opened yourself.

God opened them.

There were doors you desperately wanted opened that God kept closed, and later you understood why.

There were times He provided.

Times He protected you.

Times He corrected you.

Times He restored you.

Times He carried you.

You may still have unanswered questions today, but you also have a history with God.

Don't let today's uncertainty erase yesterday's testimony.

Remember What God Has Done at Harvest

Today, I also want us to remember together.

God has been faithful to Harvest.

There have been difficult seasons and beautiful seasons. There have been moments when we knew exactly what God was doing and moments when we had to trust Him one step at a time.

But through it all, God has remained faithful.

People have encountered Jesus.

Lives have changed.

Families have been restored.

People have been baptized.

People have been healed.

People have discovered purpose.

God has provided when there was a need.

He has opened doors we couldn't open ourselves.

He has brought people into this family at exactly the right time.

And now, as we stand looking toward another season and new territory, we should not approach the future as people who have never seen God move.

We have a testimony.

The same God who has been faithful behind us will be faithful ahead of us.

Build a Memorial

When Israel crossed the Jordan, God instructed Joshua to have twelve stones taken from the river and established as a memorial.

Joshua 4:1–7

Why?

Because God knew there would come a generation that would see the stones but wouldn't know the story.

When their children asked what those stones meant, God's people were supposed to tell them what the Lord had done.

Those stones became a reminder:

God brought us through here.

We need spiritual memorials too.

Moments we can look back on and say:

God met me there.

God answered me there.

God provided there.

God carried me there.

God brought us through there.

Remembering isn't living in the past.

It is allowing God's faithfulness in the past to strengthen our faith for the future.

His Faithfulness Gives Us Courage to Move Forward

We're not remembering because we want to go backward.

We're remembering because we are preparing to go forward.

There is new territory ahead of Harvest.

And there will undoubtedly be moments when we don't know exactly how everything will happen.

When those moments come, we can look back and remember:

We've been here before.

Maybe not in this exact situation.

Maybe not with these exact circumstances.

But we have stood in places where we needed God before.

And He was faithful.

Lamentations says:

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases…” (Lamentations 3:22 ESV).

God's faithfulness didn't expire when the last season ended.

He is still faithful today.

And He will still be faithful tomorrow.

Today's Prayer Focus

Remember Personally
Thank God specifically for the ways He has been faithful in your life.

Remember Together
Thank God for what He has already done through Harvest.

Thank Him Before Asking
Spend some time today thanking God without immediately moving into your list of needs.

Strengthen Your Faith
Let yesterday's testimony become fuel for today's trust.

Trust Him With What's Ahead
Thank God in advance that His character will not change in the next season.

Today's Prayer

Father, today I remember Your faithfulness.

Thank You for every prayer You have answered, every need You have provided, every door You have opened, and every season You have carried me through.

Forgive me for the times I have allowed today's problems to make me forget yesterday's faithfulness.

Today, I choose to remember.

Thank You for what You have done in Harvest. Thank You for every life that has been changed, every person who has found Jesus, every family You have touched, and every provision You have made.

As we prepare for what is ahead, remind us that we aren't stepping into the future alone.

The God who brought us this far is still leading us.

Give us faith for tomorrow because we remember Your faithfulness yesterday.

Today's Challenge

Take a piece of paper or open a note on your phone and write down:

Five times God has been faithful to you.

Be specific.

Then thank Him for each one.

If you're facing something uncertain today, read that list again and remind yourself:

“The God who was faithful then is still faithful now.”

Day 1: Lord, search me.
Day 2: Lord, cleanse me.
Day 3: Lord, I surrender.
Day 4: Lord, I want more of You.
Day 5: Lord, I'm listening.
Day 6: Lord, I trust You.
Day 7: Lord, I remember.
