Day 32: My Peace I Give to You

40 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Prayer Focus: Receiving the Peace of Christ

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you…”
John 14:27 ESV

Yesterday our prayer was:

“Lord, teach me to pray according to Your heart.”

Today we continue focusing on what flows from a life that remains close to Jesus:

“Jesus, let Your peace rule in me.”

We live in a world filled with noise, uncertainty, pressure, and anxiety. Circumstances can change quickly, and if our peace depends upon everything around us going according to plan, peace will always be fragile.

Jesus offers something different.

He says:

“My peace I give to you.”

A Different Kind of Peace

Jesus continues in John 14:27:

“Not as the world gives do I give to you.”

The peace Jesus gives isn't dependent upon the absence of trouble.

In fact, Jesus spoke these words to His disciples shortly before the cross.

Their circumstances were about to become extremely difficult.

Yet Jesus promised them peace.

Biblical peace doesn't mean everything around us is calm.

It means our hearts can remain anchored in Christ even when everything around us is not.

Bring Everything to Him

Philippians 4 connects peace directly with prayer.

Paul tells us not to be anxious, but instead to bring everything to God through prayer and thanksgiving. Then he says:

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7 ESV

Notice that Scripture doesn't tell us to pretend our concerns aren't real.

It tells us where to take them.

Bring the worry.

Bring the uncertainty.

Bring the situation you cannot control.

Bring the unanswered question.

Then leave it with God.

Let Peace Rule

Colossians 3:15 says:

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”

We don't have to allow fear, anxiety, or circumstances to rule our hearts.

Jesus offers His peace.

Our responsibility is to remain close to Him and continually surrender what tries to steal that peace.

Today's Prayer Focus

Give Me Your Peace
Quiet the fear and anxiety within me.

Guard My Mind
Help me refuse thoughts that continually pull me toward worry.

Teach Me to Surrender
Help me release what I cannot control.

Keep Me Close
Let my peace come from Your presence rather than my circumstances.

Today's Prayer

Jesus, thank You for giving me Your peace.

Today I bring You every worry, unanswered question, and situation beyond my control.

Guard my heart and mind.

When fear rises, remind me that You are near. When circumstances change, remind me that You have not.

I surrender what I cannot control and choose to trust You with it.

Jesus, let Your peace rule in me.

In Your name, amen.

Today's Challenge

Identify one thing that has been stealing your peace.

Bring it specifically before God today.

Then pray:

“Jesus, I give this to You. Let Your peace rule in me.”

Every time your mind returns to the worry, intentionally return it to God.
