Day 33: Do Not Be Anxious
40 Days of Prayer & Fasting
Prayer Focus: Trusting God With Tomorrow
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow…”
Matthew 6:34 ESV
Yesterday our prayer was:
“Jesus, let Your peace rule in me.”
Today we deal with one of the greatest enemies of that peace:
Worry about tomorrow.
Our prayer today is:
“Father, I trust You with tomorrow.”
Tomorrow Belongs to God
Much of our anxiety comes from mentally living in a day that hasn't arrived yet.
What if this happens?
What if that doesn't work?
What if I don't have enough?
What if something goes wrong?
Jesus brings us back to today.
In Matthew 6, He reminds His disciples that the Father knows what they need. He points to the birds and the flowers as reminders of God's care.
Then He says:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness…”
Matthew 6:33 ESV
Jesus redirects our attention from worrying about tomorrow to seeking God's Kingdom today.
Worry Cannot Carry Tomorrow
Jesus asks an important question:
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”
Matthew 6:27 ESV
Worry feels productive because our minds are busy.
But worry doesn't change tomorrow.
It only steals peace from today.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't plan, prepare, or act wisely.
It means we recognize the difference between preparation and anxiety.
We prepare for tomorrow.
But we trust God with tomorrow.
Give Him Today's Burden
God gives us grace for the day we're actually living.
Sometimes we become overwhelmed because we're trying to carry today's responsibilities along with tomorrow's possibilities.
Jesus says:
“Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34 ESV)
You don't have to solve everything today.
You don't have to know everything today.
You don't have to carry tomorrow today.
God is already there.

Today's Prayer
Father, today I give You tomorrow.
Forgive me for the times I have allowed worry about what might happen to steal the peace You have given me today.
You know what I need before I ask.
Give me wisdom to prepare faithfully, but keep me from trying to control what belongs to You.
Help me seek Your Kingdom first and trust You with everything I cannot see.
Father, I trust You with tomorrow.
In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Challenge
When you catch yourself worrying about something that hasn't happened yet, stop and ask:
“Is this something God has given me to carry today?”
If not, give it back to Him.
Then focus on the faithfulness, obedience, and responsibilities God has placed in front of you today.
