Day 27: Love One Another

40 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Prayer Focus: Showing Jesus Through Love

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:35 ESV

Yesterday our prayer was:

“Lord, let people see Jesus through me.”

Today Jesus shows us one of the clearest ways that happens:

“Lord, teach me to love like You.”

Love Is Part of Our Witness

Jesus didn't say people would recognize His disciples primarily by how much they knew, how gifted they were, or how impressive they appeared.

He pointed to something everyone could see:

How they loved one another.

Our love for people becomes evidence that we belong to Jesus.

And biblical love is more than emotion.

It acts.

It serves.

It forgives.

It shows patience.

It chooses humility.

It bears with people when relationships become difficult.

John later writes:

“Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”
1 John 3:18 ESV

The Gospel should become visible in how we treat people.

Love When It Costs Something

It's easy to love people who agree with us, encourage us, and treat us well.

Jesus calls us deeper.

He tells us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44).

That kind of love cannot be produced by human emotion alone.

We need the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes letting our light shine means forgiving when we have been hurt.

Sometimes it means refusing to retaliate.

Sometimes it means listening instead of arguing.

Sometimes it means serving someone who cannot repay us.

The world has seen plenty of anger.

Let them see the love of Jesus.

Today's Prayer Focus

Fill Me With Your Love
Help me love people from a heart transformed by You.

Heal My Relationships
Show me where unforgiveness, bitterness, or pride needs to be surrendered.

Teach Me to Forgive
Give me grace to extend the mercy I have received.

Make Love Visible
Let my actions demonstrate the love of Christ.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for loving me when I did not deserve it.

Teach me to love others with that same grace.

Search my heart for bitterness, offense, unforgiveness, or pride. Help me surrender anything that keeps me from loving people well.

Give me patience with difficult people, grace toward those who have hurt me, and humility in my relationships.

Let the way I treat people point them toward Jesus.

Lord, teach me to love like You.

In Jesus' name, amen.
