Is God on Your Side? | Go Forward, Part 4

Go Forward, Part Four — Is God on Your Side? A hiker overlooks a sunlit mountain valley.

When life gets difficult, we want to know who is on our side. In Joshua 5:13–15, Joshua approaches the commander of the Lord’s army with that very question. The encounter brings him to worship, surrender, and a willingness to listen.

God’s faithfulness gives us confidence. His lordship calls for our surrender. Romans 8:31–32 anchors our assurance in what God has done through His Son. We can trust His love while allowing Him to correct our plans.

Surrender begins with the next step

Before Joshua received instructions about Jericho, he was told to remove his sandals. He obeyed. Sometimes our next step forward is an act of obedience we have been postponing: telling the truth, releasing bitterness, making an apology, or asking for help. Private obedience does not mean struggling alone. God often uses trusted believers to help us walk in freedom.

Serve God in this season

Acts 13:36 describes David as serving God’s purpose in his generation. Your present season has a place in His purpose, too. Faithfulness matters in your home, workplace, relationships, and the people God has placed before you. At Harvest, that includes loving our neighbors here in Englewood.

Stand together and keep going

Jericho required a shared response. The church also stands together through prayer, truth, generosity, and care. Ephesians 6 reminds us that people are not our enemy. We resist darkness while loving the people Jesus calls us to reach.

Going forward means trusting God enough to obey while the outcome remains unseen. Bring Him your plans with open hands. Ask Joshua’s question: “What does my lord say to his servant?” Then take the next faithful step.

A prayer for today

Lord Jesus, bring my plans under Your authority. Show me where to repent, whom to love, and how to serve You in this season. Give me grace to listen and courage to obey. Amen.
