Giving What We Have

Luke 3:11 (ESV)

“And he answered them, ‘Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.’”

Biblical generosity begins with what is already in our hands.

When people asked what repentance should look like, the answer was not abstract. John the Baptist pointed to everyday generosity. Share clothing. Share food. Give from what you already have. Obedience was expressed through simple, tangible actions.

Christmas reminds us that God meets needs through willing people. The call to give is rarely about excess; it is about awareness. God often asks us to notice what we have and who lacks it. Generosity begins when we stop overlooking what is right in front of us.

Scripture frames giving as responsibility, not impulse. It is not driven by emotion alone, but by obedience. When we recognize that what we possess is entrusted to us, generosity becomes a natural response rather than a seasonal gesture.

Giving toward others requires attentiveness. Needs do not always announce themselves. They appear quietly in conversations, circumstances, and interruptions. Those who listen carefully are often the ones God uses most effectively.

Sharing what we have may feel small, but obedience is never insignificant. God multiplies simple acts of faithfulness. What is offered in love becomes a means of provision, dignity, and care for others.

Christmas generosity is not about having more.
It is about being willing.

What we release in obedience often becomes an answer to someone else’s prayer.
