Day 30: Bear Much Fruit

40 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Prayer Focus: A Fruitful Life

“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit…”
John 15:8 ESV

Yesterday our prayer was:

“Jesus, keep me close to You.”

Today we continue in John 15:

“Lord, let my life bear fruit.”

Jesus doesn't call us merely to believe in Him and remain unchanged. As we abide in Christ, something should begin to grow in us and through us.

A connected branch bears fruit.

Fruit Is the Result of Abiding

Jesus says:

“Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit…”
John 15:5 ESV

Notice the order.

Abide first. Fruit follows.

We don't produce spiritual fruit by simply trying harder. Our lives become fruitful as we remain connected to Jesus and allow Him to transform us.

The Holy Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control within us (Galatians 5:22–23).

But fruit also extends outward.

People are loved.

People are served.

The Gospel is shared.

Disciples are made.

Lives are impacted.

Fruit is evidence that the life of Christ is working in us and through us.

The Father Is Glorified

Jesus says something important in John 15:8:

Fruit brings glory to the Father.

The goal isn't for people to look at our lives and be impressed with us.

The goal is that what God produces through our lives points people back to Him.

Yesterday we prayed to remain connected to the Vine.

Today we pray:

“Lord, produce something through my life that brings You glory.”

Today We Fast Together

Today is our weekly churchwide fast from sunup to sundown, liquids only.

As hunger comes throughout the day, let it remind you:

I need Jesus.

Apart from Him, we can do nothing.

Instead of merely counting the hours until the fast ends, use those moments to pray:

“Jesus, produce Your fruit in me.”

Let today's physical hunger draw you back to the Vine.

Today's Prayer Focus

Produce Your Fruit in Me
Change my character to reflect Jesus.

Prune What Is Unfruitful
Remove attitudes, habits, and distractions that hinder spiritual growth.

Use My Life
Let what You produce in me become a blessing to others.

Receive the Glory
May everything that grows through my life point back to You.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for connecting me to Jesus, the true Vine.

Today I ask You to make my life fruitful.

Produce in me what I cannot produce on my own. Change my character, remove what is unfruitful, and make me increasingly like Jesus.

As I fast today, remind me that my strength and spiritual life come from You.

Let my life produce fruit that blesses others and brings glory to Your name.

Lord, let my life bear much fruit.

In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Challenge

As you fast today, ask:

“What fruit is God producing in my life, and what still needs to be pruned?”

When hunger comes, turn it into prayer:

“Jesus, keep me connected to You and make my life fruitful.”
