Prayer Focus: Guidance & Direction
“Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.”
Psalm 25:4 ESV
Yesterday our prayer was:
“Lord, give me wisdom.”
Today we continue:
“Lord, show me Your way.”
We often ask God to show us what is ahead. We want answers, details, and clarity about tomorrow.
But David's prayer in Psalm 25 goes deeper. He doesn't simply ask God to show him a way. He asks God to teach him His ways.
There is a difference.
We don't only need God to tell us what to do. We need Him to shape us into people who increasingly understand His heart, recognize His ways, and desire what He desires.
Teach Me Your Paths
Sometimes we want God to give us the destination while He is focused on teaching us how to walk with Him.
Psalm 25 continues:
“Lead me in your truth and teach me…”
Psalm 25:5 ESV
Notice the words David uses:
Show me. Teach me. Lead me.
That's the posture of someone who recognizes that God knows the way better than we do.
Following God requires humility.
It means being willing to say:
“Lord, if my way and Your way are different, I choose Yours.”
One Step at a Time
God doesn't always reveal everything at once.
Psalm 119 describes His Word as “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 ESV)
A lamp doesn't necessarily illuminate miles of road ahead. It gives enough light to take the next step.
Sometimes that's exactly how God leads us.
We want the entire plan.
God gives us the next step.
We want certainty about tomorrow.
God asks us to obey Him today.
Faith isn't knowing everything that lies ahead.
Faith is following the One who does.
Today's Prayer Focus
Show Me Your Ways
Ask God to help you understand His heart and His Word more deeply.
Teach Me Your Paths
Ask Him to correct anything in your life that is moving in the wrong direction.
Lead Me in Truth
Let Scripture, rather than feelings or opinions, become the foundation for your direction.
Help Me Obey Today
Instead of worrying about every step ahead, ask God what faithfulness looks like today.
Today's Prayer
Father, show me Your ways and teach me Your paths.
I don't want simply to ask You to bless the direction I have chosen. I want You to lead me.
Correct me when I am wrong. Redirect me when I wander. Give me humility to choose Your way over my own.
When I cannot see the entire road ahead, give me enough faith to take the next step.
Lead me in Your truth, keep me close to Your presence, and teach me to follow You one day at a time.

Today's Challenge
Before asking God about tomorrow, ask Him:
“Lord, what does obedience look like for me today?”
Then focus on faithfully taking the next step He has already placed in front of you.
