Offense is a Trap, Not a Justified Response

Scripture Focus:
“And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.”
— Matthew 24:10–12 (ESV)

Devotional Thought:
Jesus doesn’t sugarcoat the last days. He tells us plainly—many will fall away, and it won’t be because of persecution alone. It will be because of offense, betrayal, deception, and cold love.

Offense is a powerful spiritual snare. It begins with a wound, but if left unchecked, it hardens the heart, severs relationships, and opens the door to deception. The Greek word for “fall away” in verse 10 is skandalizó—it’s the same root word for offended.

In the context of end-time pressure, offense becomes one of Satan’s most effective strategies. It doesn’t start with heresy. It starts with hurt—a word not spoken, a moment misunderstood, a loyalty questioned. That’s all it takes to create a rift in the Body of Christ that leads to betrayal and division.

Jesus said many would fall away—but He never said it had to be you.

Prayer Focus:

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to expose any offense, bitterness, or unresolved hurt in your heart.

  • Pray for the grace to forgive quickly and thoroughly, even when it’s not easy.

  • Intercede for unity in the Church and healing where relationships have been fractured.

  • Declare that you will not fall away—you will endure in love and truth to the end.

Reflection Question:
Am I nursing any offense in my heart that the enemy could use to derail me or divide the Body?

Closing Prayer:
Lord, I refuse to carry offense into this next season. Search my heart and show me if there’s anything hidden—any hurt that has hardened me. I choose to forgive. I choose to love. I choose to stay tender and rooted in You. Guard me from the deception that comes through wounded pride, and help me walk in unity with those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
