Day 22: Here I Am, Send Me
40 Days of Prayer & Fasting
Prayer Focus: Availability to God
“Here I am! Send me.”
Isaiah 6:8 ESV
Yesterday our prayer was:
“Lord, let Your presence go with me.”
Today the question changes.
If His presence goes with us, are we willing to go where He sends us?
Our prayer becomes:
“Lord, here I am. Use me.”
God Is Looking for Availability
In Isaiah 6, Isaiah has a powerful encounter with the holiness and presence of God.
He recognizes his own condition. God cleanses him. Then Isaiah hears the Lord ask:
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8 ESV)
Isaiah's response is simple:
“Here I am! Send me.”
Notice that Isaiah didn't begin by asking where.
He first made himself available.
Sometimes we want all the details before saying yes.
Where are You sending me?
What will You ask me to do?
Will I be comfortable?
Will I feel qualified?
But surrender says:
“Lord, my yes belongs to You before I know all the details.”
God Can Use Ordinary People
We sometimes assume God uses people who are more gifted, experienced, spiritual, or qualified than we are.
But throughout Scripture, God repeatedly works through ordinary people who make themselves available to Him.
Moses felt inadequate.
Gideon felt insignificant.
Jeremiah felt too young.
The disciples were ordinary men.
The issue was never whether they were enough on their own.
God was enough.
The question is not simply, “Am I capable?”
The better question is:
“Am I available?”
Your Mission Field May Be Close
Being sent by God doesn't necessarily mean traveling somewhere far away.
Your mission field may be your workplace.
Your neighborhood.
Your family.
The person sitting beside you.
The conversation God places in front of you today.
Someone may need encouragement.
Someone may need prayer.
Someone may need to hear about Jesus.
Someone may simply need to experience the love of Christ through you.
Don't become so focused on a future assignment that you miss the person God has placed in front of you today.
Today's Prayer Focus
Make Me Available
Help me stop placing conditions on my yes.
Open My Eyes
Show me the people around me who need Your love.
Give Me Courage
Help me respond when You give me an opportunity.
Use My Life
Let my words, actions, gifts, resources, and relationships point people toward Jesus.
Today's Prayer
Father, today I make myself available to You.
Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear, insecurity, or inconvenience to keep me from responding.
Open my eyes to the people around me.
Give me courage when You provide an opportunity to encourage, serve, pray, give, or share Jesus.
I may not feel completely qualified, but I know You are enough.
So today my answer is:
“Here I am. Send me.”
In Jesus' name, amen.
