Prayer Focus: Repentance & Cleansing
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10 ESV
Yesterday, we began our 40-day journey with consecration. We asked the Lord to search our hearts and reveal anything that needs to be surrendered to Him.
Today, we take the next step:
When God shows us something, we respond.
Psalm 51 gives us a powerful picture of David coming before God in genuine repentance. David had been confronted with his sin. Instead of continuing to hide it, excuse it, or blame someone else, he brought his heart before the Lord.
David wasn't simply asking God to change his circumstances. He wanted God to change his heart.
That should be our desire today.
Repentance Is Part of Consecration
When we think about consecration, we often think about giving something up or committing ourselves more fully to God. But consecration also requires us to deal honestly with anything that has come between us and the Lord.
Paul describes a “godly grief” that produces repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10 ESV).
Repentance is more than feeling bad about something. It is recognizing where we have departed from God's ways, agreeing with Him about it, and turning back toward Him.
During these 40 days, the Holy Spirit may begin bringing things to our attention.
Maybe it's an obvious sin.
Maybe it's unforgiveness we've carried.
Maybe it's pride.
Maybe our prayer life has been neglected.
Maybe we've allowed distractions to consume time and attention that once belonged to God.
Maybe we've simply become spiritually comfortable.
Whatever He reveals, don't resist His conviction. Respond to it.
Clean Hands and a Pure Heart
Psalm 24 asks who can ascend the hill of the Lord and stand in His holy place. The answer includes the one who has “clean hands and a pure heart…” (Psalm 24:4 ESV).
That is what we should desire.
Over these 40 days, we're going to pray for God to do significant things.
We're going to pray for Harvest.
We're going to pray about the new territory God is leading us into.
We're going to pray for Englewood and the people God has called us to reach.
We're going to pray for salvations.
We're going to pray for healing and miracles.
We're going to pray for our future.
But before asking God to move through us, we should be willing to let Him work in us.
Our greatest preparation for what God has ahead isn't organizational. It isn't a building, equipment, finances, or even having the perfect plan.
Our greatest preparation is becoming a people completely surrendered to God.
And that starts individually.
Revival cannot simply be something we want to see happen around us.
Our prayer must become:
“Lord, revive something in me.”
Don't Run From Conviction
Sometimes conviction makes us uncomfortable. But conviction isn't something we need to fear.
When the Holy Spirit puts His finger on an area of our lives, His purpose isn't to drive us away from God. He is calling us back to God.
Scripture tells us that when we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive and cleanse us (1 John 1:9).
So when the Lord reveals something today, don't hide it.
Don't justify it.
Don't blame someone else.
Don't push it aside.
Bring it into the light.
Confess it.
Turn from it.
Receive His forgiveness.
And keep moving forward with Him.
Today's Prayer Focus
Take some time today to pray through these five areas:
Search Me
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything in your heart or life that needs to change.
Forgive Me
Be specific with God about what He brings to your attention. Confess it and turn from it.
Cleanse Me
Ask God to purify your heart, motives, thoughts, attitudes, and desires.
Renew Me
Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your hunger for God and your sensitivity to His voice.
Use Me
Surrender yourself again to God's purposes and ask Him to prepare you for everything He has ahead.
Today's Prayer
Father, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
Search me and show me anything I have allowed into my life that does not belong there. Give me the humility to recognize it and the willingness to surrender it.
Forgive me for the places where I have disobeyed You, ignored Your voice, allowed compromise, carried unforgiveness, or permitted other things to take the place that belongs to You.
Cleanse my heart. Renew my hunger for Your presence. Make me sensitive again to Your voice.
As we seek You together during these 40 days, prepare my heart for what You want to do. Before I ask You to change what is around me, I give You permission to change what needs to change within me.
Prepare Harvest for the new territory ahead of us. Make us a people with clean hands and pure hearts, ready to hear Your voice, follow Your presence, and obey You wherever You lead.

Today's Challenge
Find a quiet place today and ask the Lord:
“What is in my life that You are asking me to turn away from?”
Don't rush to fill the silence.
Give the Holy Spirit time to search your heart.
And when He reveals something, respond with repentance and surrender.
