Commit Your Year to the Lord
As we step into a brand new year, it’s natural to think about plans, goals, dreams, and the future. But Scripture gives us a simple and powerful starting point:
Proverbs 16:3 — “Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.”
This verse shifts our perspective.
It doesn’t say make your plans and ask God to bless them.
It says commit your work to the Lord first — and then your plans find alignment, stability, and direction.
This is how believers step into a new season with confidence:
Not by control, but by consecration.
Not by striving, but by surrender.
Not by guessing, but by trusting.
Yesterday we reflected on recognizing the season we’re in. Today we take the next step:
We place the entire year — every plan, every decision, every unknown — into God’s hands.
Why Commit Our Plans?
Because God sees what we do not.
He sees the roadblocks ahead.
He sees the opportunities waiting.
He sees the shifts in seasons before we can perceive them.
When we commit our plans to Him, we are saying:
“Lord, lead me where my wisdom cannot. Direct me where my strength will fail. Shape my path according to Your purpose, not my preference.”
And that is where stability comes.
What Does Commitment Look Like?
Biblical commitment is not handing God a list.
It’s handing Him the pen.
It’s inviting Him into:
our decisions
our relationships
our work
our ambitions
our finances
our ministry
our dreams
our unknowns
It’s saying,
“You lead. I follow.”
And Scripture promises:
“…and your plans will be established.”
Not shaky. Not uncertain. Not unstable.
Established — firmly rooted in His purpose.
Prayer Focus
Today, bring the entire year before the Lord and pray:
“Lord, these plans belong to You.”
“Close every door that isn’t Your will.”
“Open every door You’ve ordained.”
“Order my steps.”
“Give me wisdom for what I cannot yet see.”
“Let Your purpose override my preference.”
Prayer
Father, today I commit this new year into Your hands. Every plan, every decision, every opportunity, every unknown — it all belongs to You. Lead me in Your wisdom. Establish my steps according to Your will. Align my heart with Your purposes, and let Your peace be the compass that guides me. I surrender this year to You completely, trusting that what You establish cannot be shaken. In Jesus’ name, amen.
